Walk/Jog
Walking/Jogging Trails
WalkersFor walkers and joggers alike, FIU offers a variety of both short and long trails that take you through and around the UP campus. Keep in mind that some of these trails go off-campus, not all are well lit, and some may cross traffic so use caution and run/walk smart!

NaturePreserve
The Nature Preserve
PreserveLocated between the football stadium and the US Century Bank Arena across from the Rec Center, FIU's Nature Preserve is a remnant of what this part of Florida once was - Everglades wetland. Home to birds, butterflies and other insects, reptiles and amphibians, this habitat can provide the occasional visitor with glimpses of a Florida past.

Walk the trails, study the flora and fauna, and enjoy a little bit of nature.

Watch FIU Athletic Teams
FIU's Division I football, baseball, soccer, and tennis teams all compete using on-campus outdoor facilities. (And swimming/diving uses the BBC Aquatic Center.) Most practices are open to spectators so bring a lunch, your laptop, or binoculars and enjoy an afternoon with the team of your choice.

Play in the Residence Hall Quad
Created by surrounding Everglades Hall, UP Towers, Lakeview, and Panther Halls, the Res Hall Quad always has something going on. Whether its a pick-up soccer match, a game of beach volleyball, tossing the frisbee, or relaxing at the pool, the Quad can be THE place on a lazy afternoon.

A Day in the Park - Tamiami Park
South of campus and north of Coral Ave. lays Tamiami Park, one of Miami-Dade's largest public parks. Playing fields, a pool, tennis courts, a playground, and lots of open space are available. FIU students, faculty and staff can swim for free at Tamiami Pool during open swim hours - just show your FIU Panther ID.

DidUKnow?
Did you know that FIU was once an airport? Before FIU was built, private aircraft took off and landed on a regular basis - probably in some of the locations that you walk to class, play basketball or eat your lunch..

TurtlePondLakes, Ponds & Gazebos
The University Park campus is adorned with both natural and man-made lakes and ponds (like the Turtle Pond seen here) that attract a wide variety of wildlife. Catch early morning flights of birds, the open wings of an anhinga, and late afternoon mating calls. Many of these campus environs have gazebos nearby where you can sit and watch nature's interplay.
