G-FIT (Group Fitness Instructor Training)

Dates/Times: Begins Oct. 24 and runs for 5 additional weekend days (10:30am-4pm). Training dates will be set up (collectively) by instructors Edwin & Jacqueline and course attendees at the Oct. 24 session. The final day includes AFAA certification.

Cost: $500 (includes certification and training)

Learn to teach group strength, kickboxing and hi/lo aerobics classes. Become nationally certified (AFAA) and find out about the latest fitness trends. Become eligible to teach FIU Recreation Services' classes.

Cancellation & Grievance Policy

First Aid / CPR / AED

Location: Recreation Center Gold Fitness Room and/or Conference Room

Get certified (or re-certified) through the American Red Cross (ARC) in First Aid, CPR/AED and Professional Rescuer w/ Bloodborne Pathogens & Emergency Oxygen, OR through the American Heart Association (AHA) in Heartsaver First Aid with CPR/AED or BLS for Health Care Providers. Cost includes card and materials. If you need re-certification, we are currently offering shorter review classes during the week. Contact Edwin at (305) 348-6519 for more info on alternative dates.

Attendees of all Fitrst Aid/CPR/AED classes must prepay and sign up at the Rec Center Membership Desk. Upon receipt of payment, attendees will be provided the booklet for the appropriate course.

The ARC and AHA courses are similar in content with minor differences in delivery and their certification validity period. All ARC courses are valid for 1 year (with the exception of the ARC Professional Rescuer course, which is valid for 2 years), while all AHA courses are valid for 2 years. Additionally, the ARC Professional Rescuer and AHA BLS for Health Care Providers are intended primarily for health care students and practitioners; however other students may be admitted with permission of the instructor. Classes may be scheduled at other times for special groups. Contact instructor Edwin at (305) 348-6519 for requirements and special scheduling for groups of 5 or more.
