Course Objectives
This course is designed to facilitate the further development of a personal style and create a practice arena for expressing a personal artistic statement. Issues and perceptions concerning the human figure are to be explored along with basic anatomy, empathic responses to the model. Experimental materials will be discussed as well as contemporary and traditional applications. The student will also be provided with an opportunity to develop analytical skills in evaluating drawings. These analytical skills will be applied to the development of a strong comprehensible artist statement.

Course Requirements
* 100%Attendance is required to recieve the maximum grade.  Each unexcused absence will result in a drop of one letter grade. Coming late for class more than three times counts as one absence for each occurrence beyond the two. You are also absent if you leave class early.

All assignments must be completed at the due date to pass the course.  Late work will not be accepted.
*
Class participation in discussions and practice. This includes coming to class outfitted with the appropriate materials.
 
Projects
* The advanced figure drawing student will turn in a proposal outlining media, research (art historical references), technical issues which will be pursued in this course. This proposal will be produced on a computer and handed in on second week of the semester. All figure drawing sessions will be attended.
 
*Maintain a sketch book/journal.   This sketchbook will be a documentation of your drawing process and development.    It will contain class notes, handouts, daily practice, (30 minutes minimum)observations and collections and weekly home assignments and exercises.
 
*You will be given important handouts pertaining to class issues. These will be kept in your sketchbook for future reference.  Quizes will be given on the materials.
 
*Participation in class exercises, including group work and discussions. Work completed and dated and turned in on time. Late work will be lose a grade for each day late.
 
*
Experimentation with media.  Make a record of drawing media/paper.  Information will be stored in sketchbook.

*Must attend visiting artist workshops and lectures.  TBA.
 
 Studio Rules
*Respect the model and classmates.  Discuss issues between drawing sessions.
*Consideration for fellow classmates: Turn off beepers and cell phones. Visit your friends outside of class time.
*Clean up you mess and help others if necessary. Residue dust is an extreme health hazzard.  Do all you can to minimalize the dust.
Motto: Leave it cleaner than you found it. (This is the true key to being a successful artist. Really.)
*The combination to classroom for your studio use only is S O L.  People not enrolled are not allowed access.
 
Evaluation
Evaluation will be based on the student's attainment of the objectives stated above, and on the fulfillment of responsibilities of student as stated above, through demonstration and practical application. Again attendance is mandatory.
A-Outstanding work and effort in and outside of class
B-Very Good work and effort, clearly above the minimum requirements
C-Good... average work, meeting all requirements
D-Below average and contributing less than the required effort
F- Not enough work to justify credit for the course

- Academic Misconduct: Cheating is the unauthorized use of books, notes, aids or assistance from any other person with respect to examinations, course assignments, field service reports, class recitations or possession of examination papers or course materials whether originally authorized or not.
- Plagiarism consisting of deliberate use and appropriation of the source and the passing off of such work as the student's own. Any student found guilty of violating academic integrity shall be subjected to procedures and penalties set forth by university policy.
- There will be a make up class to cover the late start in the semester.
