Research Interests

My laboratory uses the prototypic viruses of the families Reoviridae(Mammalian Orthoreovirus, MRV) and Birnaviridae (Infectious Bursal Disease Virus, IBDV) to study two fundamental aspects of the molecular biology of double-strand (ds) RNA viruses:

  1. Post-transcriptional regulation of viral gene expression
  2. Virus:host interactions required for viral genome replication
Our studies aim to understand the mechanistic details governing the initiation and regulation of viral protein synthesis, while also gaining insight into the means by which the coordinated expression of viral proteins alters components of both the cell and virus to facilitate the specific replication of the viral genome.
