The Biology
Graduate Student Association (BGSA) exists to serve the needs of the graduate
students of the Department of Biological Sciences at Florida International
University. These needs include but are not restricted to generating funding to
assist graduate students with travel and research expenditure, social and
intellectual interactions within the academic community and aiding biology
faculty with departmental programs like the annual Biology Symposium. The BGSA
recognizes that within the biology department, there are four (4) functional and
vibrant GSOs (MCB club, LTER student group, CI club and the Herpetology Club).
The BGSA thus serves to act as a conduit between the aforementioned groups to
foster greater collaboration between different sections of the biological
community.
The BGSA is
necessary to unite students from different biological science disciplines to
increase their overall contribution to the academic community of FIU. A united
graduate student group allows for greater collaboration with other student
groups of similar inclination, heralding benefits for both the students and the
campus in general. The BGSA aims to continue in its capacity as a bridge between
the students and the administration of the department of Biological Sciences as
well as other academic and social groups of the FIU community.
