The British-American Students Association (BASA), of Florida International University, aims to foster the love of Great Britain and share in the enjoyment of British culture. As a culture club, we are not restricted to students and faculty of British descent, but also invite our Commonwealth friends as well as anyone interested in British culture.

First general meeting of the semester

In case you didn't receive the email from our President, BASA will be holding its first general meeting of the semester this afternoon in room GC 271-B. The meeting will begin at 5pm and should last no more than an hour. Future organization events will be discussed, as well as membership issues.

Cricket fans!

Don't miss an exceptional chance to watch England play in a game you love! This Saturday, 25 September, starting at 7 am, played all day, watch England vs West Indies in the Final of the ICC Champions trophy. Compare this to a sort of World Cup of 10 cricketing nations.

Watch the game, only at Churchill's Pub just north of Downtown Miami. Don't expect anything like the Frog and Toad's though. The atmosphere is much different. It's a pub...not a restaurant but they do have foods to order. I would suggest going during the day or early evening. You'll find plenty of English things there including a double-Decker bus in the parking lot.

This will not be an official BASA event. Suit your fancy...go and have a good and interesting time. Check the calendar for driving directions. Breakfast served at start of live coverage...bangers and mash anyone?

First Pub Night of the Semester

This past Friday, 17 September 2004, we had our first pub night of the semester at the Frog and Toad's English Pub in Fort Lauderdale, a drinking establishment with a frog problem!!! We had a superb time along with great food, a lively atmosphere, and terrific company.

Friday was 40's Night with a Sing Song and 40's Attire (if possible). Two of our members wore English Peak Caps. We also saw a London Police hat, a Fez, and an "Elementary my dear, Watson!" traditional 'Sherlock Holmes' cap. Pictures of the event will be posted soon.
