Taming of the Shrew (in 1920s Miami)

I, for one, am proud to let you know that under the direction of BASA's very own faculty advisor, Phillip M. Church, FIU Theater and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens will be presenting a (relatively) modern interpretation of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

MIAMI - Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and Florida International University Theatre will present a unique interpretation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew on August 11, 12 and 13 at 8 pm and August 14 at 2:30 pm. Directed by FIU Theatre’s Phillip M. Church, the play is set in 1920s Miami, when agricultural industrialist James Deering created the European-inspired Vizcaya. Deering wintered on the property from 1916 to 1925. Performances will be in the renovated historic Vizcaya Village Garage.

This special collaboration between Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and FIU Theatre marks the first public program in Vizcaya Village and celebrates an intersection of architecture, history and performance with Shakespeare’s classic play. In addition, a panel discussion will be held on Sunday, August 14 at 1:00 pm

To purchase tickets, call 305-860-8425. General Admission $10, Students and Seniors $8. All performances will be Sign Language interpreted.
