FIU advances at Sun Belt Conference
Championships
 ixth-seeded FIU (6-13) advanced
to the second round of the Sun Belt Conference championships with a
4-0 shutout over 11th-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette (1-13), Friday, at
the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
The Golden Panthers
were helped to the victory by forfeit wins from ULL at No. 6 singles
and No. 3 doubles. FIU won at No. 2 doubles for the point as Desanka
Jovanovic and Courtney
Jonson defeated Thais Bortoletto and Fernanda Kompatsher, 8-1.
It was Jonson and Jovanovic who gave FIU the match
victory with wins in singles. Jonson won her team-leading 12th match
of the spring with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lucia Lasso at No. 6. Jovanovic
clinched the win with her 6-2, 6-0 win over Bortoletto at No. 3.
The Golden Panthers advance on to meet No. 3-seed Middle
Tennessee. The championship concludes Sunday.
