Virginia comes away with
5-2 women's tennis win
o. 39-ranked Virginia (7-3) won
its third-straight women's tennis match with a 5-2 victory over
host FIU (3-8) Wednesday afternoon on the University Park courts.
The Cavaliers won all three doubles matches with No. 56-ranked
Henrietta Williams and Jennifer Tuchband defeating
FIU's Mei
Ly and Bruna
Discordia, 8-5, at No. 1.
At No. 3, FIU's Davina
Duronio and Courtney
Jonson made a match of it before falling to Kyle Montgomery
and Lauren Bruch, 9-7.
In singles, FIU picked up its two points when Discordia beat
Lori Stern, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 3 and Duronio was victorious
over Marta Bechliwanis at No. 6 in come-from-behind fashion,
3-6, 6-4, (10-7).
Virginia took the top two singles matches with Williams beating
Desanka
Jovanovic, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 and Tuchband defeating
My, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2.
The Golden Panthers next take on Florida State next Monday,
March 10 at the FIU courts.
