Golden Panthers snap losing
skid, 5-2, over Stetson
IU
(2-5) snapped a four-match losing streak with a 5-2 home-court
victory over Stetson (1-5), Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Panthers swept the doubles point with Mei Ly
and Bruna Discordia defeating Stetson's Beth Hayden
and Milica Milovanovic, 9-7, at No. 1. FIU's Christine
Suard and Desanka Jovanovic took No. 2 doubles, 8-3,
over the Hatters' Amanda Smeak and Jennifer Wisnoski,
but Jovanovic injured her foot during the match, finishing it,
but was unable to perform in singles.
FIU took four of the five singles matches played with Ly coming
back at No. 1 after going down to Milovanovic, 3-6, in the first
set. Ly rebounded with 6-1, 6-1 set wins and took the match.
Other singles wins by the Golden Panthers came at No. 2 by
Discordia, 7-5, 6-2 over Jackie Bohannon; Davina Duronio's
6-3, 7-6 victory over Marina Levin at No. 4; and Courtney
Jonson's 6-4, 6-2 win against Caroline Woerle at No.
6.
Stetson took its two points at No. 3 where Hayden defeated
Suard, 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 6 where Wisnoski won be default.
The Golden Panthers take on Florida Atlantic next Friday,
Feb. 21 in Boca Raton.
