FIU falls to No. 18 South Alabama in rain-abbreviated match

he No. 18-ranked South Alabama women's tennis team claimed a 5-1 win over FIU Friday afternoon in Mobile, avenging last season's regular-season defeat. In 2002, USA lost at FIU, 4-3, the only loss by the Jags to a team from the Sun Belt Conference in the last 11 years.

USA won five of six single matches to move to 4-1 on the year, and extended its home-win streak to 51 matches. The No. 44-ranked Golden Panthers fell to 1-2 on the season. The doubles matches were not played due to poor weather conditions.

FIU's lone point came at No. 4 singles, where Christine Suard defeated Dominika Nemcovicova, 6-3, 6-4.

The Golden Panthers face the University of Alabama Saturday in Mobile.
