FIU holds on for 4-3 victory
over UCF
he
FIU women's tennis team won the doubles point then got singles
victories from three newcomers in a 4-3 win over UCF, Sunday
in Orlando.
After dropping all three doubles matches Saturday to No. 2
Florida, the Golden Panthers swept the Knights in all three doubles
battles. At No. 1, FIU's Mei Ly and Bruna Discordia
handled Julie Pecastaing and Anna Westin, 8-3.
The Golden Knights (1-2) and FIU split the singles matches,
clinching the victory at No. 3 where Golden Panthers freshman
Desanka Jovanovic beat Kristina Lohmos, 6-3, 2-6,
6-1. Also picking up singles wins for FIU were junior-college
transfer Christine Suard (6-2, 6-3) and No. 5 and freshman
Courtney Jonson (6-1, 7-5) at No. 6.
The Golden Panthers take to the road again next weekend when
they travel to Mobile, Ala., for matches against Sun Belt Conference
foe South Alabama, Alabama and Troy State.
