FIU Mei Ly, Golden Panthers
doubles team reach ITA Regional semifinals
IU
sophomore Mei Ly reached the semifinal round of the Omni
Hotel/ITA South Regional Tournament in Mobile, Ala. Saturday
with a straight-set Flight B singles victory over Ashlee Callahan,
6-4, 6-3. She will meet Georgia Techs Kristen Robertson
Sunday, with the winner advancing to the Regional championship.
Two Golden Panther doubles team are also still alive. In Flight
A, Anneliese Rose and Cristina Campana beat Sihem
Bennacer and Sara Robbins from the University of Miami,
8-5, then upset the No. 2-seeded University of Florida team of
Lindsay Dawaf and Julia Scaringe, 8-4.
In B doubles, Maria Montoya and Dominique Rosenberg
beat Jessica Balbuena and Beth Lawrence in the
quarterfinals to move on to Sundays semifinal round against
Mississippi States Elaine Fagan and Carole Soubis.
FIUs No. 4-seeded Rose was toppled in her round of 16
match Saturday by the No. 13 seed, Alexis Gordon from
the University of Florida, 7-6 (6), 6-4.
The Regional concludes Sunday. |
