No. 28 FIU whitewashes Miami
of Ohio, 7-0
IU
women's tennis celebrated its move up from No. 29 to No. 28 in
the national polls with a 7-0 home shutout over Miami of Ohio,
Thursday at the University Park courts.
The win was the fourth straight for the Golden Panthers, raising
their season record to 10-3.
FIU swept through doubles to pick up that point. Leading the
way at No. 1, the Golden Panther's No. 25-ranked Anneliese
Rose and Cristina
Campana defeated Kadija Richards and Catherine
Dilley, 8-3.
Despite claiming all six singles matches, Miami put up a fight,
especially at the bottom of the lineup where the Golden Panthers
Marina Raic pulled out a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Erica
Echko.
An even closer match took place at No. 6 where Dominique
Rosenberg won the point in a tiebreaker against Miami's
Grace Cascarilla, 6-2, 1-6 (10-5).
That wasn't the case at No. 1 where Rose won her ninth singles
match of the year taking care of Richards, 6-2, 6-4, and Mei
Ly won for the tenth time this season with a 6-3, 6-1
victory over Megan Zimpher at No. 2.
The Golden Panthers host Syracuse Friday at noon on the University
Park courts.
