FIU tops Middle Tennessee, 3-0, for its first win

IU wins its first game of the year over Middle Tennessee, 3-0, at University Park. Goalie Adrienne McWilliams recorded a shutout as the Golden Panthers won their first Sun Belt Conference game of the season.

FIU's (1-8-1, 1-0 SBC) Elizabeth Durozel gave the Golden Panthers the lead, kicking in a shot from 10-feet off a cross of Nicola Bell. The goal came in the 40th minute. Janessa Taddei had three shots in the first half, followed by Heather Gallacher and Durozel with two.

FIU blew the game open in the second half, as freshman Amanda Salvarezza and senior Sarah Middlebrook scored goals off of Middle Tennessee (3-6-1, 0-1 Sun Belt) goalkeeper Emily Shrum. The goal off of Salvarezza's foot was her first as a Golden Panther.

The Golden Panthers' Nicola Bell and Rosanna Lopez assisted Middlebrook, as she scored her first goal in three years.

McWilliams was in control of the net all night, saving six shots for the win.

FIU will next host Sun Belt opponent Western Kentucky on Monday afternoon at 2pm.
