#1 North Carolina defeats FIU 6-0

or the second time in three days, the Florida International University Women's Soccer team faced a national power from the state of North Carolina. And for the second time in three days, they were unsuccessful in their upset bid, losing to the #1 ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels Sunday afternoon 6-0.

The Tar Heels took control of the match early, scoring three goals in the first 20 minutes. Two of the goals came courtesy of Freshman Forward Lindsay Tarpley, who added another goal in the second half. The hat trick, the first of its kind by a UNC Freshman since 1997, came on Tarpley's nineteenth birthday.

Once again, the Golden Panthers were battered by numerous corner kick opportunities and several shot attempts, surrendering twenty-six shot attempts and thirteen corner kicks. Still, the final score could have been worse if not for the 11 saves recorded by Junior Goalkeeper Adrienne McWilliams.

FIU was led in shots attempted by Sophomore Midfielder Janessa Taddei for the second straight game. The Golden Panthers look for their first win of the season when they host Miami, Fla. this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at University Park.
