Duke defeats Florida International 5-0

or the fifth straight game, The Florida International University Women's soccer team came up short, losing a 5-0 decision to Duke University Friday night in Durham, North Carolina. The star of the evening turned out to be Duke Freshman Forward Carolyn Riggs. Despite coming off of the bench, Riggs contributed two goals and an assist.

The goals came in quick succession in the first half. Riggs put away a header from Sophomore Midfielder Casey McCluskey in the twenty-fifth minute, and then followed it up with a strike from eighteen feet in the twenty-sixth minute. The match then deteriorated into a scoring exhibition for the Blue Devils (5-2), with three separate players scoring goals in the second half.

Junior Goalkeeper Adrienne McWilliams recorded nine saves in the losing effort for FIU. The Golden Panthers (0-6-1) look to rebound Sunday when they face the University of North Carolina in Durham at 11:30 a.m.
