Golden Panthers women's soccer team will play six teams that
participated in the NCAA Tournament last season, including runner-up
North Carolina.
FIU, which finished 11-4-2 last season, will start its season
at the FAU Tournament against Western Carolina (August 30) and
Memphis (September 1). Two instate rivals are next with UCF
in Orlando (9/6) and then the Golden Panthers open their home
schedule vs. the Owls (9/11).
After a trip to Jacksonville to face the Dolphins and South
Florida, FIU will take on the toughest two-game road trip of
the season at the Duke Adidas Classic, playing the host (9/20)
and 17-time national champion North Carolina (9/22).
The Golden Panthers then renew their rivalry with cross-town
rival, Miami (9/25), which went to its first NCAA Tournament
last season. The past two seasons games have been decided in
overtime.
FIU will start its drive for a second Sun Belt Conference
title hosting Middle Tennessee on September 27. The Sun Belt
Tournament will be played in Mobile, AL on the campus of South
Alabama from November 5-9.
"Last year, I really thought we played well, but lost
a couple of key games," said FIU head coach Everton Edwards.
"This season I left no doubt that we should make (the NCAA
Tournament), if we play well."
