Women's Golf Accepts $30,000 Donation from
the Warren Family
IU
Head Women's Golf Coach David Pezzino announced today
that Chuck Warren has donated $30,000 to the golf program.
Coach Pezzino said the donation would be in memory of Warren's
father, Jerry. The money will go to the "Jerry Warren Memorial
Endowment Scholarship" to help FIU student-athletes on the
golf team.
Jerry Warren was an avid golfer who competed in many
local amateur tournaments. Warren was a student under Bill
Mehlhorn, who was an assistant golf coach at FIU under Bobby
Shave.
Chuck Warren is a partner at the Bryan Cave International
Law Firm in New York and is the Deputy Leader of the Environmental
Client Service Group. Mr. Warren has been involved in environmental
law, both in government and in private practice, for more than
25 years.
"The Warren family has been thinking about an appropriate
way to keep my father's memory alive for family, friends and
others," said Mr. Warren. "We decided to establish
a golf scholarship at FIU in his name since he loved the game
so much and was associated with golf for so long."
This is the second large donation coach Pezzino has accepted
in the past year. Former alum and LPGA Hall of Famer Pat
Bradley donated $25,000 to the golf program at the 25th Annual
FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational in November.
"I am very honored and feel a tremendous amount of responsibility
to steward this endowment award," said Pezzino. "The
team appreciates the gift Chuck and his family and friends have
given in honor of his father. We look forward to watching this
endowment grow." |
