FIU's Courtney Burdick wins medalist honors at the Golden Panther Women's Championship

unior Courtney Burdick shot an 80 in the final round to win medalist honors by one stroke at the Golden Panther Women's Championship held at the Doral Silver golf course.

Illinois took the team championship by shooting a two-day total of 633, 13-strokes better than UNC-Greensboro. Georgia State finished in third at 653, followed by Florida Atlantic (656) and a fifth-place tie between Middle Tennessee and FIU at 658.

After a three-over 74 yesterday, Burdick fired a round of 80 for a 154 (+12), one stoke ahead of Illinois' Laurin Kanda. The win was the first of Burdick's career. It was the first medalist win for FIU since Michelle Simpson won the Ryder/Florida State Championship in 2001.

Middle Tennessee's Tamara Munsch followed in third (156). There was a three-way tie for fourth place at 157, between Ulrika Ljungman (Daytona Beach CC), Kayla Bowsher (Citadel) and Michelle Carroll (Illinois).

The low round of the day and tournament went to UNC-Greensboro's Ashlee Dean, who fired a two-over 73.

FIU will next travel to Lakeland, FL to compete in the Imperial Lakes Tournament on February 28.
