Vrancheva's triple-double
leads FIU past Bradley
velina Vrancheva recorded her first career
triple-double, totaling 11 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists
to lead the FIU women's basketball team past Bradley, 89-73,
in first round action of the Stony Brook Invitational Friday
in Stony Brook, N.Y.
The Golden Panthers (3-2), who
arrived in New York only hours before game time, were down by
as many as nine points in the second half before closing out
the game with a 27-11 run while holding the Braves (3-2) to two
points in the final 3:58.
FIU had six players in double
figures for scoring. Cormisha Cotton posted her 15th career double-double
with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Dace Cinite added 14 points
and 10 rebounds for her second double-double in three games.
Bradley's Genny Mueller led all
scorers with 23 points.
Vrancheva's feat is the first
since Gergana Slavtcheva had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists
vs. Youngstown State on Nov. 25, 2000.
FIU will face host Stony Brook,
76-71 winners over Fairleigh Dickinson, in the title game of
the tournament on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. |
