Free throws, balanced scoring
attack helps Women's Basketball down Alabama State
aeza Bouderra came off the bench to score
a career-high 13 points as Florida International won its first
game of the season, 70-44, over Alabama State in the consolation
game of the Seminole Classic Saturday night.
Bouderra connected on 9-of-10
attempts from the charity stripe and added a pair of layups in
17 minutes of action. Forward Mandy Shafer also had 13 points
to go along with five boards, an assist and a block.
Alabama State used a pressure
defense that spoiled the Golden Panthers' run-and-gun offense
and resulted in the officials whistling the Hornets for 28 fouls.
FIU went 37-of-53 from the free-throw line and scored over half
its points from the charity stripe.
The Hornets' Shameka Jackson
led all scorers with 23 points while FIU's Milena Tomova was
the game's leading rebounder with 10 boards.
All 11 Golden Panthers saw action
in the game with 10 different players scoring.
The win improved FIU to 1-1 on
the year while Alabama State remained winless at 0-2.
Up next for the Golden Panthers
is the FIU/Herald Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 29-30, at Golden
Panther Arena. FIU will be hosting LSU, Virginia Tech and Washington
State in the tournament. |
