Women's Basketball tops
Lynn in exhibition game
ormisha Cotton poured in 18 points as
FIU downed Lynn, 73-44, in an exhibition game Monday night at
Golden Panther Arena.
FIU shot 48-percent from the
field and periodically used a full court press that forced the
Fighting Knights into 22 turnovers.
The two squads traded leads early
in the contest and were knotted in a 23-23 tie before the Golden
Panthers went on a 10-1 run to close out the first period and
gave them a 33-24 lead heading into intermission.
Lynn nipped at FIU's heels in
the opening minutes of the second half before Cotton took control.
The power forward shot 6-of-8 from the field in the final period
for 12 of her game-high 18 points.
Center Sylvia Mesa chipped in
11 points for FIU while forward Milena Tomova added 10 points.
Lynn guard Alshaa Hodges downed
a trio of three-pointers to help her to a team-high 16 points.
The game was the second of two
exhibition contests for both teams. FIU defeated Tournament of
Champions by a 91-72 count on Nov. 5 while Lynn suffered a 74-62
setback to Florida Atlantic on Nov. 8.
The Golden Panthers open the
regular season at the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.,
Nov. 22-23. Lynn will next take part in the Nova Southeastern
Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., also Nov. 22-23. |
