Women's Basketball drops
Tournament of Champions in exhibition
andy Shafer's 25 points helped the Florida
International women's basketball team down Tournament of Champions,
92-71, in an exhibition contest tonight at Golden Panther Arena.
Shafer led all scorers while
shooting 60-percent (9-for-15) from the floor including 5-for-10
from behind the three-point arc. Ivelina Vrancheva added 15
points while Silvia Mesa and Milena Tomova chipped in 14 a piece.
The Golden Panthers opened the
game with an 11-0 run and never looked back, taking a 56-35 lead
into halftime. FIU then used a 13-3 run to begin the second
period, keeping the game out of reach from the visitor.
Tournament of Champions was led
by Tracy Reid's 15 points. T of C forced FIU to commit 31 turnovers
on the evening.
The game was the first of two
exhibition contests for the Golden Panthers. FIU's second exhibition
is slated for Mon. Nov. 18, against Lynn University.
The Golden Panthers open the
regular season at the Seminole Classic Nov. 22-23.
