Russo picks up 500th win
at FIU as Golden Panthers down UALR

coach Cindy Russo picked up her 500th victory at the helm of
the women's basketball program as Florida International defeated
Arkansas-Little Rock, 66-55, in a regionally televised contest
Saturday afternoon in North Little Rock, Ark. With the win, FIU
(14-5, 5-1) remains in first place in the Sun Belt Conference's
East Division.
The Golden Panthers had little trouble with UALR (4-14, 0-6)
and led by as many as 22 points in the game. FIU outrebounded
the Lady Trojans, 45-35, and pulled down a season-high 21 offensive
boards.
Anita Heller led FIU with 18 points while Dace Cinite recorded
her fifth career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
UALR's Darci Cassidy nailed seven three-pointers for a game-high
23 points.
Russo is now 500-284 in 24 years at FIU and is 540-206 in
26 years as a head coach.
FIU returns to Miami for a four-game homestand that begins
with Western Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7:00 p.m. EST. |
