ormisha
Cotton had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Ivelina Vrancheva added
12 points and 11 assists as Florida International won its third
straight, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 79-48, Saturday night.
It was FIU's fifth biggest margin of victory in league play since
joining the Sun Belt Conference in 1998-99.
FIU (12-5, 3-1 Sun Belt) led the entire game, but managed
only a six-point halftime advantage. The Golden Panthers opened
the second half with a 17-0 run - including six points from Vrancheva
- to pull away from the Ragin' Cajuns (3-11, 0-4).
Cotton posted the 19th double-double of her career, connecting
on 10-of-15 field goal attempts and pulling down five offensive
and seven defensive caroms. It was the eighth career double-double
for Vrancheva, who currently ranks fifth in the nation in assists
per game.
Three more Golden Panthers finished with double figures in
scoring as Dace Cinite had 13 points and Mandy Shafer and Silvia
Mesa each added 11.
