FIU downs Denver

ace Cinite had a career night with 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead Florida International past Denver, 74-55, in Sun Belt Conference action Thursday night in Denver.

The Pioneers (6-9, 0-1) hung tough with FIU through most of the game before the Golden Panthers (10-5, 1-1) pulled away in the second half. Denver got as close as two, 38-36, with 13:56 remaining, but FIU used a 12-2 run midway through the second period to put the game away.

It was Cinite's third career double-double. Ivelina Vrancheva added 10 points and nine assists while Mandy Shafer added 16 points and seven rebounds.

Tasha Jones led the Pioneers, tying a career-high with 15 points.

The Golden Panthers will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to face New Mexico State in a SBC matchup on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:05 p.m. MST.
