FIU drops conference opener
at North Texas

Texas' Emily Britt had a career-high 20 points to lead the Lady
Eagles past Florida International, 64-47, in the Sun Belt Conference
opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon in Denton,Texas.
FIU (9-5, 0-1) led by seven early in the game, but UNT (4-6,
1-0) held the Golden Panthers scoreless in the final 5:44 of
the first half. Britt scored 10 straight-points to spark a 12-0
run to end the first period and give her team a 36-31 halftime
advantage.
The second period saw more of the same as the Golden Panthers
were held to 17 percent shooting from the field and managed only
16 second-half points. FIU shot only 27 percent from the field
for the game.
FIU's Ivelina Vrancheva recorded her sixth-career double-double
with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Mandy Shafer added a team-high
16 points.
It was FIU's lowest scoring total since Nov. 11, 2001, when
the Golden Panthers fell to Connecticut, 91-47.
FIU continues conference play when the Golden Panthers travel
to Denver to face the University of Denver on Thursday, Jan.
9, at 9:00 p.m. EST. |
