May 25: Former All-American Ivanyi returns to WNBA for stint with Phoenix Mercury
A legendary FIU women’s basketball star will continue her playing career on the professional level this season as Dalma Ivanyi (’99) will compete with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. Ivanyi was a late addition to the Mercury roster, signed as a free agent on May 21, after spending the last two years playing professionally in the native country Hungary.

March 20: FIU falls to Florida State in WNIT First Round
Florida State's Tasheika Morris scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Seminoles past Florida International, 77-51, in first round action of the Women's National Invitation Tournament in Tallahassee on Thursday. It was the final game for FIU seniors Cormisha Cotton, Anita Heller, Silvia Mesa and Mandy Shafer.

March 16: Golden Panthers to face Florida State in WNIT First Round
The Florida International women's basketball team will compete in postseason play for the 15th time in program history as the Golden Panthers take on Florida State in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center. Fans can contact the FSU Ticket Office (888-FSU-NOLE) or the FIU Ticket Office (866-FIU-GAME) for ticket information.

March 9: South Alabama ends FIU's title hopes
Taneisha Russell scored a game-high 23 points to lead South Alabama over Florida International, 74-57, in the quarterfinals of the 2003 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky.

March 6: Vrancheva posts career-high as FIU rolls over Ragin' Cajuns to advance in SBC Tournament
Ivelina Vrancheva scored a career-high 21 points while Cormisha Cotton added 15 points and 18 rebounds to lead Florida International past Louisiana-Lafayette, 77-41, in the first round of the 2003 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky. With the win, the Golden Panthers advance to the quarterfinals where they will face South Alabama on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

March 5: Cotton, Shafer named first team All-Sun Belt
FIU seniors Cormisha Cotton and Mandy Shafer have been voted to the Sun Belt Conference's First Team as announced by the league office today. It is the first such award for both players.

March 4: FIU to defend conference title in Bowling Green
FIU opens defense of its conference crown on Thursday against Louisiana-Lafayette in the play-in round of the 2003 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Golden Panthers and Ragin' Cajuns will square off at 9:00 p.m. EST on Thursday in Bowling Green, Ky. The game can be heard in South Florida on WAXY 790 AM with Adam Levinson, the voice of FIU women's basketball. Fans can also catch the game on 88.1 FM or on the internet at http://spankadelicrock.tripod.com/sports.

March 1: Shafer reaches the 1,000-point mark as she drops in 27 to lead FIU past UALR
Mandy Shafer became the 16th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark as she scored a game-high 27 to lead Florida International past Arkansas-Little Rock, 96-44, on Saturday night at Golden Panther Arena. The contest marked the final home game for four seniors for FIU - Shafer, Cormisha Cotton, Anita Heller and Silvia Mesa.

February 27: Shafer's 25 lifts FIU over Arkansas State
Mandy Shafer poured in 25 points and Dace Cinite added 17 points and 11 rebounds as Florida International handed Arkansas State a 76-66 loss Thursday night in Golden Panther Arena.

February 22: Middle Tennessee downs FIU
Middle Tennessee's Tia Stovall scored a game-high 16 points as the Lady Raiders defeated Florida International, 61-57, Saturday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. With the win, MT clinches the No. 2 seed in the 2003 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

February 20: Western Kentucky tops FIU
Western Kentucky clinched the Sun Belt Conference's East Division title as the Lady Toppers defeated Florida International, 75-57, on Thursday night in Bowling Green, Ken. With the win, the Lady Toppers will enter the 2003 SBC Tournament as the East's No. 1 seed.

February 20: Shafer selected to 2003 Verizon Academic All-District 3 First Team
Florida International senior Mandy Shafer has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District 3 First Team as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She is one of six student-athletes selected to the squad and will represent District 3 on the 2003 Verizon Academic All-America ballot.

February 15: Shafer leads FIU past New Orleans
Mandy Shafer scored 18 of her game-high 25 points in the second half to lift Florida International over New Orleans, 82-70, Saturday night at Golden Panther Arena in Miami. Shafer nailed a three-pointer with 1:02 remaining to give FIU an eight-point advantage and push the game out of reach of the Privateers. With the win, FIU remains in second place in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division while UNO drops to second in the West.

February 13: Tomova has career night, but FIU comes up short against South Alabama
Taneisha Russell poured in a career-high 28 points as South Alabama upset Florida International, 70-68, Thursday night at Golden Panther Arena in Miami. With the win, USA gained sole-control of first in the Sun Belt Conference's West Division while FIU fell to second in the East.

February 1: Vrancheva ties career high with 20 points as FIU edges Middle Tennessee
Ivelina Vrancheva tied a career-high with 20 points as Florida International escaped Golden Panther Arena with a 65-63 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon. With the win, FIU (15-6, 6-2) moves into a first-place tie with Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division.

January 30: Cotton's 17 are not enough as Golden Panthers fall out of first with loss to Western Kentucky
Tiffany Porter-Talbert tied a career high with 23 points as Western Kentucky moved into first place in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division with a 80-68 win over Florida International on Thursday night in Miami.

January 25: Russo picks up 500th at FIU as Golden Panthers down UALR
Head coach Cindy Russo picked up her 500th victory at the helm of the women's basketball program as Florida International defeated Arkansas-Little Rock, 66-55, in a regionally televised contest Saturday afternoon in North Little Rock, Ark. With the win, FIU (14-5, 5-1) remains in first place in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division.

January 23: FIU holds off Arkansas State to remain in first place in East
Anita Heller scored seven of FIU's final 13 points to lead the Golden Panthers to a 72-62 victory over Arkansas State on Thursday night in Jonesboro, Ark. With the win, FIU (13-5, 4-1) remains in first place in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division.

January 18: Cotton, Vrancheva post double-doubles as FIU clobbers Louisiana-Lafayette
Cormisha Cotton had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Ivelina Vrancheva added 12 points and 11 assists as Florida International won its third straight, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 79-48, Saturday night. It was FIU's fifth biggest margin of victory in league play since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 1998-99.

January 16: Tomova lifts Golden Panthers over Aggies
Milena Tomova nailed a seven-footer from the right baseline with 22 seconds remaining to lift Florida International over New Mexico State, 56-55, Thursday night in Las Cruces, N.M.

January 9: FIU downs Denver
Dace Cinite had a career night with 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead Florida International past Denver, 74-55, in Sun Belt Conference action Thursday night in Denver.

January 4: FIU drops Sun Belt opener at North Texas
North Texas' Emily Britt had a career-high 20 points to lead the Lady Eagles past Florida International, 64-47, in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both schools on Saturday afternoon in Denton,Texas.

January 1: Siena races past FIU
Gunta Basko led all scorers with 22 points and Erica Anderson added 20 points and eight assists as the Siena women's basketball team defeated Florida International, 78-66, Wednesday afternoon at Golden Panther Arena in Miami.

December 30: Shafer named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week
Senior guard Mandy Shafer has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office today. It is the first time in her career that she has earned the honor.

December 29: Shafer pours in 30 as FIU tops Ole Miss to win 18th Annual Sun & Fun Classic
Mandy Shafer poured in 30 points and Cormisha Cotton pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds as the Florida International women's basketball team defeated Mississippi, 76-68, Sunday afternoon in the title game of the Sun & Fun Classic at Golden Panther Arena in Miami. Shafer was named the tournament's MVP while Cotton, FIU's Dace Cinite, Ole Miss' Genice Terry joined her on the all-tournament team.

December 28: Cinite leads FIU past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Dace Cinite had a career-high 22 points and Cormisha Cotton tied her career-best with 16 rebounds as the Florida International women's basketball team defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 67-53, Saturday afternoon at Golden Panther Arena in Miami. With the win, FIU advances to the championship game of the 18th Annual Sun & Fun Classic and will battle Ole Miss for the title on Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

December 26: FIU set to host 18th Annual Sun & Fun Classic
The Florida International women's basketball team will host Georgia State, Mississippi and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the 18th Annual Sun & Fun Classic at Golden Panther Arena this Saturday and Sunday. The Golden Panthers and Islanders will square off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with the Rebels and Lady Panthers tipping off at 4:00 p.m.

December 20: FIU outlasts UNC-Greensboro
Dace Cinite scored a team-high 16 points, including some key baskets in the final minutes, as the Florida International women's basketball team defeated UNC-Greensboro, 71-64, on Friday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

December 18: FIU falls to No. 1 Duke
The top-ranked Duke women's basketball team was too much for Florida International as the Blue Devils handed the Golden Panthers a 106-58 loss Wednesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

December 16: FIU defeats Charlotte for fourth-straight win; Next up is No. 1 Duke
Mandy Shafer had a game-high 18 points to lead the Florida International women's basketball team to a 71-58 victory over Charlotte on Monday night at Miami-Dade Community College-Kendall.

December 14: FIU notches thirdd-straight victory over cross-town rival Miami
Silvia Mesa scored a career-high 21 points and Cormisha Cotton added 19 as the Florida International women's basketball team defeated crosstown-rival Miami, 81-70, Saturday night at Golden Panther Arena.

December 12: FIU ranked among nation's top 50 teams
The Florida International women's basketball team is currently ranked among the Top 50 teams in the nation by WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.com.

December 7: FIU routs Stony Brook en route to title
The Florida International women's basketball team wasted no time in dispensing of Stony Brook, 96-44, en route to winning the Stony Brook Tournament title on Saturday. The Golden Panthers raced out to a 29-8 lead in the first 10 minutes and never looked back. It was FIU's biggest win since a 98-35 victory over Iona on Nov. 16, 2001. The 96-point total was the most since the Golden Panthers defeated Florida Atlantic, 91-64, on Dec. 18, 2001.

December 6: Vrancheva's triple-double leads FIU past Bradley
Ivelina Vrancheva recorded her first career triple-double, totaling 11 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists to lead the FIU women's basketball team past Bradley, 89-73, in first round action of the Stony Brook Invitational Friday in Stony Brook, N.Y. Vrancheva's feat is the first since Gergana Slavtcheva had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists vs. Youngstown State on Nov. 25, 2000.

December 3: Vrancheva named Player of the Week
Point guard Ivelina Vrancheva was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office today.

November 30: No. 3 LSU races past FIU
Aiysha Smith had 13 points and 11 rebounds as third-ranked LSU squashed an upset bid by Florida International, 68-54, in the title game of the 2002 FIU/Herald Classic Saturday at Golden Panther Arena.

November 29: Cinite, Vrancheva lift FIU over Virginia Tech
Dace Cinite and Ivelina Vrancheva each posted double-doubles to lead Florida International past Virginia Tech, 79-70, Friday night in the first round of the FIU/Herald Thanksgiving Classic at Golden Panther Arena.

November 23: Free throws, balanced scoring attack helps Women's Basketball down Alabama State
Faeza Bouderra came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points as Florida International won its first game of the season, 70-44, over Alabama State in the consolation game of the Seminole Classic Saturday night.

November 22: Late run helps Georgia State upset Women's Basketball
Georgia State's Angelina Miller erupted for seven points in the final eight minutes to lead GSU to a 72-67 upset over Florida International in the first round of the 2002 Seminole Classic Friday night.
