A legendary FIU
women’s basketball star will continue her playing career on the
professional level this season as Dalma Ivanyi (’99) will compete
with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. Ivanyi
was a late addition to the Mercury roster, signed as a free agent on
May 21, after spending the last two years playing professionally in
the native country Hungary.

20: FIU falls to Florida State in WNIT First Round
Florida State's Tasheika Morris scored
a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Seminoles past Florida International,
77-51, in first round action of the Women's National Invitation Tournament
in Tallahassee on Thursday. It was the final game for FIU seniors Cormisha
Cotton, Anita Heller, Silvia Mesa and Mandy Shafer.

16: Golden Panthers to face Florida State in WNIT First Round
The Florida International women's
basketball team will compete in postseason play for the 15th
time in program history as the Golden Panthers take on Florida
State in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament

Ivelina Vrancheva scored a career-high
21 points while Cormisha Cotton added 15 points and 18 rebounds

in the first round of the 2003 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference
Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky. With the win, the Golden Panthers
advance to the quarterfinals where they will face South Alabama

FIU seniors Cormisha Cotton and
Mandy Shafer have been voted to the Sun Belt Conference's First
Team as announced by the league office today. It is the first
such award for both players.

4: FIU to defend conference title in Bowling Green
FIU opens defense of its conference
crown on Thursday against Louisiana-Lafayette in the play-in
round of the 2003 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The Golden Panthers and Ragin' Cajuns will square off at 9:00
p.m. EST on Thursday in Bowling Green, Ky. The game can be heard

1: Shafer reaches the 1,000-point mark as she drops in 27 to
lead FIU past UALR
Mandy Shafer became the 16th player
in school history to reach the 1,000 point mark as she scored
a game-high 27 to lead Florida International past Arkansas-Little
Rock, 96-44, on Saturday night at Golden Panther Arena. The contest
marked the final home game for four seniors for FIU - Shafer,
Cormisha Cotton, Anita Heller and Silvia Mesa.

Mandy Shafer poured in 25 points
and Dace Cinite added 17 points and 11 rebounds as Florida International
handed Arkansas State a 76-66 loss Thursday night in Golden Panther

Middle Tennessee's Tia Stovall scored
a game-high 16 points as the Lady Raiders defeated Florida International,
61-57, Saturday in Murfreesboro, Tenn. With the win, MT clinches

20: Western Kentucky tops FIU
Western Kentucky clinched the Sun
Belt Conference's East Division title as the Lady Toppers defeated
Florida International, 75-57, on Thursday night in Bowling Green,
Ken. With the win, the Lady Toppers will enter the 2003 SBC Tournament
as the East's No. 1 seed.

20: Shafer selected to 2003 Verizon Academic All-District 3 First
Team
Florida International senior Mandy
Shafer has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District
3 First Team as voted by the College Sports Information Directors
of America. She is one of six student-athletes selected to the
squad and will represent District 3 on the 2003 Verizon Academic
All-America ballot.

15: Shafer leads FIU past New Orleans
Mandy Shafer scored 18 of her game-high
25 points in the second half to lift Florida International over
New Orleans, 82-70, Saturday night at Golden Panther Arena in
Miami. Shafer nailed a three-pointer with 1:02 remaining to give
FIU an eight-point advantage and push the game out of reach of
the Privateers. With the win, FIU remains in second place in
the Sun Belt Conference's East Division while UNO drops to second
in the West.

13: Tomova has career night, but FIU comes up short against South
Alabama

Tennessee
Ivelina Vrancheva tied a career-high
with 20 points as Florida International escaped Golden Panther
Arena with a 65-63 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday
afternoon. With the win, FIU (15-6, 6-2) moves into a first-place
tie with Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division.

Tiffany Porter-Talbert tied a career
high with 23 points as Western Kentucky moved into first place

Little Rock, Ark. With the win, FIU (14-5, 5-1) remains in first
place in the Sun Belt Conference's East Division.

Anita Heller scored seven of FIU's
final 13 points to lead the Golden Panthers to a 72-62 victory
over Arkansas State on Thursday night in Jonesboro, Ark. With

18: Cotton, Vrancheva post double-doubles as FIU clobbers Louisiana-Lafayette
Cormisha Cotton had 20 points and
12 rebounds and Ivelina Vrancheva added 12 points and 11 assists
as Florida International won its third straight, defeating Louisiana-Lafayette,
79-48, Saturday night. It was FIU's fifth biggest margin of victory
in league play since joining the Sun Belt Conference in 1998-99.

The Florida International women's
basketball team wasted no time in dispensing of Stony Brook,
96-44, en route to winning the Stony Brook Tournament title on
Saturday. The Golden Panthers raced out to a 29-8 lead in the
first 10 minutes and never looked back. It was FIU's biggest
win since a 98-35 victory over Iona on Nov. 16, 2001. The 96-point
total was the most since the Golden Panthers defeated Florida
Atlantic, 91-64, on Dec. 18, 2001.

6: Vrancheva's triple-double leads FIU past Bradley
Ivelina Vrancheva recorded her first
career triple-double, totaling 11 points, 11 rebounds and 14
assists to lead the FIU women's basketball team past Bradley,
89-73, in first round action of the Stony Brook Invitational
Friday in Stony Brook, N.Y. Vrancheva's feat is the first since
Gergana Slavtcheva had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists
