Cornell sweeps volleyball in the Georgia
Tech Invitational

sweeps FIU, 3-0, at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta,
GA. Jennifer Owens (Miami/Braddock) led the Golden Panthers
with nine kills, eight digs and a .353 attack percentage.
FIU (4-7) couldn't overcome its own mistakes in the first
game, as the Golden Panthers tied Cornell (4-2) with 38 total
attacks, but had an attack percentage of -.184. The Big Red took
advantage with 12 kills and a 30-22 game one win.
The second game was better for FIU, with its biggest lead
of the match at 21-14. Cornell would fight back, eventually scoring
the last four points to win 31-29. The Golden Panthers committed
eight service and attack errors down the stretch to help the
Big Red.
The third game was another tight game. FIU tied the game at
21, before giving up four straight points. With the Golden Panthers
down 27-23, Elizabeth Baldwin won three consecutive service
points, to bring FIU within one. Cornell then received three
kills from Debbie Quibell to close out the match.
Adriana Fundora finished with eight kills and seven
digs, while Betsy Moreland led FIU recording 23 set assists.
Nirvana Kos was again out of the lineup due to back
problems and will miss the weekend tournament.
FIU will finish up play at the Georgia Tech Invitational tomorrow
against Georgia Tech and Alabama. |
