FIU evens its season record
with a Saturday sweep
IU
won the Mike Castrucci Auto Xavier Invitational, by sweeping
Tennessee Tech (30-20, 30-22, 19-30, 33-31) in the morning and
Texas-Pan American (30-28, 30-26, 30-15) in the evening.
The Golden Panthers (3-3) received a strong performance from
Adriana Fundora, who recorded 35 kills in the two matches,
and Nirvana Kos with 21 kills and 11 digs against Tennessee
Tech (1-4). Fundora also had a double-double with 17 kills and
12 digs vs. Texas-Pan American (0-6).
Against Tennessee Tech, FIU took advantage of its over .400
attack percentage in the first two games to take a commanding
2-0 lead. The Eagles would fight back to win game three and cause
a thrilling game four, by attacking at a .429 and .406 clip,
respectively.
UTPA couldn't come up with its first win of the season against
the Golden Panthers, as FIU held them to only 32 kills in the
three games.
Ohio native Betsy Moreland's return home was a successful
one as she had 68 set assists over the weekend, the most on the
team.
The Golden Panthers now return home to play Florida Atlantic
on Tuesday night, before hosting the FIU Invitational on Friday
and Saturday against Miami, Florida State and IUPUI. |
