FIU snaps Xavier's 18-game
home winning streak, 3-0
IU
snapped Xavier's 18-match home winning streak in three games
(25-30, 22-30, 26-30) in front of 1,009 fans.
The Musketeers (0-4) also lost its first ever match in the
three-year history of their own tournament and just its second
match ever since moving to the Cintas Center befor the 2000 season.
In game one, Xavier took a 10-10 score to a 15-10 lead on
a pair of service aces by sophomore setter Molly Martin
and two kills from freshman outside hitter Meggie Hoffman.
The Golden Panthers (1-3) would battle back to tie the score
at 25-25 despite being out hit by a .250 to .233 margin by pounding
out six service aces and taking advantage of seven Xavier service
errors in game one.
After winning game one 30-25, FIU went back to work in game
two and dominated with a .346 to .192 hitting advantage and just
five service errors to the Musketeers nine in a 30-22 game two
win.
In game three, Xavier would begin much like they did in game
one, jumping out to an 11-6 lead before another Musketeer service
error would knot the score at 17-17.
The game would remain close until a kill from Vanessa Gonzalez-Vinas
and a service ace by Nirvana Kos would give the Golden
Panthers a 25-22 edge and eventually lead to a 30-26 game three
win.
On the night Xavier could not overcome a serving disadvantage
which saw FIU collect 12 service aces and XU commit 21 service
errors. The Golden Panthers also led in hitting .284 to .173
behind a match-high 11 kills from Kos.
FIU will play Tennessee Tech at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow and Texas-Pan
