FIU Volleyball signs one for
the upcoming season
IU
volleyball coach Cookie Stevens has announced the signing
of Dyionna Smith (Seminole, FL / Seminole High School)
to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play
volleyball for the Golden Panthers.
Smith was a four-year varsity player at Seminole high school
in Seminole, Florida, coached by Fran Cosich. Dyionna
was voted to the North County All-Conference team as a junior
when she led the team to the Seminole district runner up spot.
She was voted team captain as a senior and led the team to the
Seminole 2002 district championship.
Smith plays club ball for Pinellas Heat Elite, coached by
A.J. Joseph. An avid beach player, she finished second
in the AAU Jr. Regional Beach Championships and also garnered
runner-up honors at the USA J.O. Beach Championships.
"At 6'1", Smith will add height to the setter's
position," Stevens said. "Dyionna will be asked to
take on many responsibilities as a freshman. She will be expected
to compete for the starting setting position this year." |
