Owens becomes first Golden Panther named to NFCA All-Southeast Region First Team

lorida International junior third baseman Jennifer Owens has been voted first team All-Southeast Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Owens, who was a second team selection in 2001, is the first-ever Golden Panther to be elected to the region's top team. The all-region distinction places her on the NFCA's All-America ballot.

Owens batted .363 with 12 doubles and 39 RBI while leading the Golden Panthers to their first NCAA Regional appearance. A 2000 graduate of Braddock High School in Miami, she set a FIU single-season record with 74 hits this year. She is currently FIU's all-time career leader with 117 RBI and 28 doubles.

Besides Owens, Shannon Carey is the only other Golden Panther to be chosen all-region. She was voted second team in 2000.
