Owens, Wolter named to Verizon Academic All-District III Second Team

unior Jennifer Owens and senior Stephanie Wolter have been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District III Softball Second Team as announced by the district coordinator today.

Owens, a 2000 graduate of Braddock High School in Miami, has a 3.36 grade point average in elementary education and is a three-year starter on the softball and volleyball teams. This season she has started all 58 games at third base for the Golden Panthers and leads the team with a .368 batting average and 36 runs batted in.

Wolter, a native of La Palma, Calif., has a 3.40 grade point average in athletic training. She is a four-year starter at shortstop and is the school's all-time leader in games played, hits, at bats and runs scored. She is currently batting .328 for the Golden Panthers with eight doubles and three home runs.

FIU is 35-23 and will face Middle Tennessee on Thursday in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Bowling Green, Ky.
