FIU defeats No. 10 FAU to snap its five-game losing streak

IU snaps No. 10 Florida Atlantic's five-game winning streak and its own five-game losing skid, Wednesday night in a 1-0 win in Boca Raton, FL.

FAU was held to just three hits in its home finale. The game was scoreless into the fifth inning before FIU (36-30) broke out on top 1-0 on a two-out infield single by Kelly Nicosia that scored Sabrina Smith at third.

FAU had a chance to score in the seventh with runners on second and third and one out. After a pop-up by Ginny Matthews and a walk to Nikki Myers, Amanda Nealer fanned pinch-hitter Jessica Fernandez for the game's final out.

Leah Barnes (5-8) picked up the victory, allowing just one hit in 5.1 innings of work. She struck out six and walked four.

Nealer came in to pick up her fourth save of the season. Myers (31-5) suffered the complete game loss and had her 11-game winning streak snapped. She allowed one run on six hits and struck out eight.

The Golden Panthers close out their regular season this weekend at Western Kentucky, before hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, May 9-11.
