FAU defeats FIU

Softball loses 1-0 to No. 10 Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton,
FL. Vanessa Preston and Kendra Laminack (8-7) both
combined to allow only two hits, but the Owls (52-8) were able
to take advantage of three walks and a wild pitch to score the
lone run.
FAU's Heather Wright scored the game's only run off
a sacrifice bunt by Callie Piper in the bottom of the
fifth inning. Wright got on base with a walk, then advanced
to second on another walk. She went on to third on a wild pitch
by Laminack, followed by Piper's bunt.
The Golden Panthers (35-26) had only three hits off of Nicole
Myers (30-4), who won her 30th game of the year. Jennifer
Owens, Nicole Dubovik and Kristen Perry got
on with singles, but couldn't cross the plate.
FIU will now return to Sun Belt Conference action and travel
to No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette for a four-game series with the
Ragin Cajuns over the weekend.
