Wolter scores winning run in the bottom of the seventh to defeat St. Thomas

IU defeats St. Thomas in the bottom of the seventh inning, 2-1, at University Park.

The Golden Panthers (35-25) jumped out on top in the first inning, as Jennifer Owens singled in Kelly Nicosia. It was Owens team-leading 31st RBI on the season.

Neither team scored until the top of the sixth, when St. Thomas (29-15) tied up the game, after two FIU errors. Debbie Collins bunted in Jessica Pomar to tie the game. The Bobcats didn't get one hit in the inning, but were able to score.

Lesley Gillen hit a fly ball to left field with Stephanie Wolter on third. Wolter slid home making Bobcat catcher Mindi Harris bobble the ball to score the winning run.

Amanda Nealer pitched two perfect innings for the win. Nealer goes to 12-4 on the year, while Lillith Reller took the loss.

Before the game, FIU said goodbye to seven seniors, as this was their last regular season home game. The team will be hosting the Sun Belt Conference Tournament from May 9 to 11.

The Golden Panthers will next play No. 12 Florida Atlantic on Sunday in Boca Raton, FL.
