FIU rolls over St. Thomas; win streak reaches 13 games

he Florida International softball team reeled off its 12th- and 13th- consecutive victories as the Golden Panthers swept St. Thomas (8-8, 0-0) in a doubleheader Friday night at University Park.

FIU batted .500 as a team and totaled seven extra-base hits, including a solo home run to left field from Marleah Stapf in game two. FIU's Cindy Turek and Megan Dontrich each went 4-for-5 on the night while Stephanie Wolter batted 5-for-7 with three RBI and four runs scored. FIU swiped 11 bases on the evening, including seven in the first contest which tied a school single-game record.

Golden Panther hurlers Kendra Laminack (9-7) and Amanda Nealer (16-6) earned the victories.

Katherine Alge batted 2-for-4 for the Bobcats while STU pitchers Jessica Millar (6-11) and Amanda Metcalf (9-7) suffered the losses.

FIU improves to 28-19 on the season while St. Thomas falls to 16-18-1.

The Golden Panthers host Florida Atlantic in a single game on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
