Softball splits
doubleheader with 2-1 win over Rhode Island
IU's
Kendra Laminack tossed a complete-game four hitter as
the Golden Panthers beat Rhode Island, 2-1, Wednesday night for
a split of their home softball doubleheader.
In the opener, the University of North Carolina came away
with an 8-5, 11-inning victory that took over three hours to
complete.
Laminack raised her season record to 6-4 with four strikeouts
and FIU is now 20-17 on the year. Kelly Nicosia had two
hits and Kristen Perry had a hit and an RBI in the win.
North Carolina banged out 18 hits in the opener, three of
those were home runs. FIU relief pitcher Leah Barnes (2-4)
suffered the defeat despite 11 base hits by the Golden Panthers.
FIU hosts its Blue and Gold Classic this weekend at University
Park featuring Missouri-Kansas City, Illinois-Chicago, Massachusetts
and Fordham. The Golden Panthers open with UMass, Friday at 5:00
p.m.
