FIU and FAU to meet for Schlotzsky's/ FIU Invitational championship

ophomore pitcher Amanda Nealer tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout as FIU advanced to the championship game of the Schlotzsky's/FIU Invitational with a 1-0 victory over No. 22 Alabama (6-3).

The Golden Panthers (3-6) will face Florida Atlantic, Sunday at one o'clock in the championship game. The Lady Owls (5-6) took nine innings to defeat No. 16 Ohio State, 2-1, on a bases-loaded RBI single by Callie Piper. Pitcher Candice Freel when the distance, pitching nine innings of five hit softball.

Nealer (3-1), meanwhile, struck out eight and walked just two, allowing only one Crimson Tide runner to reach third base in the game.

The Golden Panthers scored the game's only run in the sixth inning. Nicole Dubovik stole second base and scored on a two-out single by Cindy Turek, who collected two of FIU's four hits in the game.

Earlier in the day, FIU fell to FAU, 5-0. The Golden Panthers managed just one hit in the game off Lady Owls freshman hurler Amanda Morin, a sixth-inning leadoff single by Kristen Perry. FIU would go on to load the bases, but Morin struck out Golden Panthers catcher Marleah Stapf to end the threat.
