After upsetting No. 22-ranked
Alabama, 1-0, in the emifinals of the Schloltzsky's/FIU Invitational,
the Golden Panthers went on to defeat Florida Atlantic, 4-0,
for the tournament championship trophy on Feb. 9. It was the
first-ever in-season tournament title for in the brief five-year
history of the program.

19: Owens becomes first Golden Panther named to NFCA's All-Southeast
Region First Team
FIU
junior third baseman Jennifer Owens has been voted first team
All-Southeast Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Owens, who was a second team selection in 2001, is the first-ever
Golden Panther to be elected to the region's top team. The all-region
distinction places her on the NFCA's All-America ballot.

15: Golden Panthers knocked out in first day of NCAA Regionals
The
Florida International softball team had
a rude awakening on Thursday as the Golden Panthers saw their
Women's College World Series hopes
snuffed out in one day with a 4-2 loss to Mississippi State and
a 3-1 loss to Creighton that knocked FIU out of NCAA Regionals
in Lincoln, Neb. Thursday's decisions ended FIU's history-making
season that saw the Golden Panthers (37-27) receive their first-ever
bid into the postseason and post their best finish in the Sun
Belt Conference.

11: FIU makes history with NCAA Regional berth
The Florida
International softball team made history today as the Golden
Panthers received an at-large bid to compete in the 2003 NCAA
Nebraska Regional, May 15-19, in Lincoln, Neb. It will be the
first-ever postseason appearance in the six-year history of the
program. The Golden Panthers (37-25) are the fifth seed in the
Nebraska regional and will face fourth-seeded Mississippi State
(33-28) in the first round on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. CST.

10: Big innings lift Ragin' Cajuns to victory over Golden Panthers
in SBC Softball Championship game
One
day after pitching a one-hit shut out to Florida International,
Louisiana-Lafayette hurler Brooke Mitchell held FIU to three
hits en route to leading the Ragin' Cajuns to a 6-2 victory and
their fourth-consecutive Sun Belt Conference championship on
Saturday in Bowling Green, Ky. ULL (43-8) has never lost in 13
conference tournament contests. FIU ends the season at 37-25
unless the Golden Panthers receive an at-large bid into NCAA
Regionals.

9: Nealer, Barrett shut down WKU to advance FIU to SBC title
game
No.
2-seeded Florida International tallied runs in four-straight
innings after the first and then rode the pitching of Amanda
Nealer and Nicole Barrett to a 5-0 victory over Western Kentucky
to advance to Saturday's Sun Belt Conference Championship game.
Nealer picked up her 21st victory of the season, tying an FIU
school record while Marleah Stapf hit a solo home run and scored
two runs.

9: FIU can't get bats going in loss to No. 21 Louisiana-Lafayette
Brooke
Mitchell struck out a career-best sixteen batters Friday in throwing
a one-hit shutout, leading top-seeded Louisiana-Lafayette to
a 6-0 victory over No. 2 seed Florida International in the winner's
bracket of the Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament at WKU
Softball Field.

8: Dubovik's game-winning hit lifts FIU over MT and advances

Dubovik singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the
seventh inning Thursday to lead second-seeded Florida International
to a 2-1 victory over No. 3 seed Middle Tennessee in the opening
game of the Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament at WKU Softball
Field.

International softball coach Kim Gwydir was voted by her peers
as the 2003 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and nine Golden

as announced by the district coordinator today.

4: FIU sweeps MT; enters SBC Championship as No. 2 seed
The
Florida International softball team ended the regular season
with a bang, sweeping a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader with
Middle Tennessee (3-5, 2-0) on Sunday afternoon en route to giving
the Golden Panthers (35-23, 11-3) their best league record in
the program's six-year history.

3: Dubovik goes 6-for-7 as FIU splits with Middle Tennessee
Nicole
Dubovik batted 6-for-7 and Nicole Barrett picked up her NCAA-leading
11th save as FIU split a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader with
Middle Tennessee (0-7, 2-1) on Saturday in Murfreesboro. FIU
is now 33-23, 9-3 on the year while the Lady Raiders are 32-17,
8-6.

27: Wolter, Owens and pitching staff lead FIU to sweep of Western
Kentucky
Stephanie
Wolter batted 4-for-6 and lefthander Amanda Nealer tossed her
fourth complete-game shutout of the season as the Florida International
softball team held off Western Kentucky (3-2, 1-0) in Sun Belt
Conference doubleheader action on Sunday in Miami. FIU improved
to 32-22, 8-2 on the season while the Hilltoppers fell to 26-26,
4-6.

Florida

Belt Conference's Hitter of the Week for the week of April 14
as announced by the league office today.

20: FIU sweeps 20th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns
The
Florida International pitching staff held Louisiana-Lafayette
to one run while the FIU lineup pounded out 18 hits as the Golden
Panthers defeated the 20th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns (2-2, 0-1) in
a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader on Sunday in Miami. Sunday's
results mark the first time that ULL has been swept in a SBC
doubleheader and the first time since Feb. 14, 2001, that the
Ragin' Cajuns have lost both games of a twinbill.

19: FIU drops conference doubleheader to Ragin' Cajuns
The
Florida International softball team dropped a Sun Belt Conference
doubleheader to No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette (5-4; 3-1) on Saturday
in Miami. With the losses, the Golden Panthers (28-22, 4-2) fell
to second place in the league standings behind the Ragin' Cajuns
(33-5, 10-0).

15: Win streak ends as FAU tops Golden Panthers
Florida
Atlantic pitcher Amanda Morin struck out six batters and the
Owls' lineup exploded for five doubles as FAU defeated Florida
International, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Miami. The loss halted
FIU's 13-game winning streak and served as the Golden Panthers
final tuneup before hosting No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend
in a Sun Belt Conference series.

The
Florida International softball team reeled off its 12th- and
13th- consecutive victories as the Golden Panthers swept St.
Thomas (8-8, 0-0) in a doubleheader Friday night at University
Park.

6: Golden Panthers trounce Aggies to remain undefeated in league
play; continue assault on school's consecutive-wins record
The
Florida International softball team continued its assault of
the school's consecutive-win record, rolling off its 10th- and
11th- straight victories as the Golden Panthers blanked New Mexico
State (15-9; 0-0) in a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader on Sunday
afternoon in Las Cruces. The 15 runs in game one also set a school
record for runs in a contest, eclipsing the old mark of 14 set
in 2001.

5: FIU sets school mark with ninth-straight win; opens league
play with sweep of NMSU
The
Florida International softball team set a school record with
its eighth and ninth consecutive victories as the Golden Panthers
opened Sun Belt Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of
New Mexico State (13-2, 2-1) on Saturday in Las Cruces. FIU eclipsed
the previous mark of eight straight wins set by the 2000 and
2001 squads.

30: FIU sweeps doubleheader with Turnpike-rival FAU
The
Florida International softball team won its sixth and seventh
straight games as the Golden Panthers swept both halves of a
twinbill with turnpike-rival Florida Atlantic (2-1, 1-0) on Sunday
afternoon in Boca Raton. FIU has now defeated FAU three times
this season and has won four of its last six contests against
the Owls.

24: Barrett named SBC Pitcher of the Week
FIU
freshman Nicole Barrett was named the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher
of the Week for the week of March 17 as announced by the league
office today. The right-hander tossed her first career no-hitter
against Manhattan on Tuesday and tacked on her sixth save of
the season in the Golden Panthers' win over Towson on Saturday
- tying a school record.
March 22: Two wins at Rebel Classic push FIU over
.500 mark
Winning
for the 15th time in the last 20 games, the FIU softball team
(20-19) reached the .500 mark for the first time this season
with a pair of wins Saturday at the Rebel Classic in Orlando.
The Golden Panthers collected 26 hits on the day with a 6-1 victory
over Colgate and a 9-3 win over Towson.
March 18: Golden Panthers sweep Manhattan, inch
closer to .500
A five-inning no-hitter
tossed by freshman pitcher Nicole Barrett and 23 base hits on
the night by FIU (18-19) highlighted a doubleheader sweep over
Manhattan. The
Golden Panthers won the nightcap, 9-1, behind Barretts pitching
gem. In the opener, another five-inning affair won 9-0, Kendra
Laminack hurled a two-hit shutout behind a 13-hit attack.

15: FIU advances to title game of Nike Blue & Gold Classic
with 3-2 win over No. 24 UMass
FIU
reliever Nicole Barrett snuffed out a seventh-inning rally by
Massachusetts as Florida International held on to defeat the
Minutewomen, 3-2, in the second day of the Nike Blue & Gold
Classic in Miami. With the victory, FIU advances to Sunday's
championship game where the Golden Panthers will face No. 7 California.
March 14: FIU tops No. 20 Texas A&M, gets by
Syracuse on Nike Classic opening day
FIU
came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat No. 20 Texas A&M,
3-2, then plated two runs in extra innings to beat Syracuse,
3-1, on the opening day of the Nike Blue & Gold Classic at
University Park.
