Wilson and Waugh compete at Georgia Tech last chance meet

IU junior Vronique Wilson (Ft. Lauderdale/Boyd Anderson) and senior Gerald Waugh (Miami/Coral Gables) hoped to improve their standings for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by competing at this weekend's last chance meet at Georgia Tech.

But neither was able to post a better time from their previous best, so Wilson, in all probability, will make the cut in the women's 200-meter dash at the national championships, May 30-June 1 in Baton Rouge, but Waugh will stay home.

Wilson finished seventh at the Georgia Tech 200m with a time of 24.01, more than a half-second off of her season-best time of 23.24 accomplished at last week's Sun Belt Conference Championships. With the NCAA inviting a minimum of 17 sprinters for that event, Wilson's best time ranks 10th fastest in the nation.

Waugh was looking for a qualifying time in the men's 110m hurdles, but he fell short. He posted a time of 14.47 at Georgia Tech that was slower than his second-place 14.20 at last week's conference meet, and well off the provisionally-qualifying time needed to compete at the NCAAs.
