team title.
Wilson became FIU's second female event champion of the meet
by winning the finals of the 200m with a season-best and provisionally-qualifying
time of 23.24. That mark is the seventh-fastest time in Division
I thus far this outdoor season with the NCAA awarding the top
17 times a berth in its outdoor championships, May 30-June 1
in Baton Rouge, La.
Also earning all-conference honors for the women was Alexia
Dean (Dania, Fla.) with a second-place showing in the
400-meter dash (54.55), raising FIU's team total to six after
Michelle
Lennox (Pearl River, N.Y.) in the pole vault, Linda
Loussaint (Miami, Fla.) in the high jump, Simone
Thomas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) in the discus and Rebecca
Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) in the 10,000-meter run, all
finished among the top three in their events.
Thomas just missed dual honors after finishing fourth in the
women's hammer throw (135-feet-6).
FIU's Luiz
Prestes (Curiúva, Brazil) took all-conference
recognition on the men's side in three different events. The
senior distance runner finished second in the 800-meter run (1:53.51)
and third in the 1,500 meters (3:54.92) and 5,000m (14:50.92).
Gerald
Waugh (Miami, Fla.) also claimed all-conference
stature by placing second in the 110m hurdles (14.20), joining
teammate Alex
Shaw (Miami, Fla.) who earned that honor earlier at the
meet with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters.
Several others scored points for FIU, but just missed all-league
status. Jarod
Mills' (Spofford, N.H.) 140-feet-6 hammer throw was fourth
best as was Greg
Johnson's (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) time of 52.89 in the
finals of the 400-meter dash. |
