Rebecca Rodriguez and Alex
Shaw earn all-conference honors at SBC outdoor meet

Rebecca
Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) and senior Alex
Shaw (Miami, Fla.) both earned All-Sun Belt Conference
recognition on the opening day of the SBC Outdoor Track &
Field Championships in New Orleans.
Rodriguez finished second in the women's 10,000-meter run
with a time of 38:30.61, giving FIU a second-place team finish
with eight points.
She finished sandwiched between New Mexico State runners Rachael
Cuellar who won the event (37:22.72) and Liz Jaramillo
who was third (38:40.79). Their finishes give the Aggies the
early lead with 16 team points.
In the men's 10,000 meters, Shaw finished third with the team's
season-best time of 32:46.97 that gave the Golden Panthers six
team points in the early going.
Western Kentucky's Enda Grandfield won the distance
event with a time of 32:18.64 helping the Hilltoppers to the
team lead with 16 points. FIU is in third place, two points behind
North Texas (8).
After the first five events of the men's decathlon, FIU's
Chris Polly is in 10th place with 2,314 points, far behind
leader Jacob Fehler (3,770 points) from Arkansas State
who won four individual events on the day. Polly's best event
was the shot put where he finished fifth with a toss of 38'0.25". |
