1: FIU hires Stephen Rubin as its Track and Field head coach
Athletic director Rick
Mello announced today the hiring of head track and field coach Stephen
Rubin. Rubin comes from Washington University in St. Louis, where he
was the head coach. At Washington University, Rubin produced eight All-Americans
and 22 qualifying athletes for the NCAA Championships. The women and
men’s teams recorded top-25 finishes at the NCAA’s this
past season.

12: Men's and Women's Track and Field teams finish in third and eighth
at SBC Championships
The FIU men's and women's
track and field teams finish in eighth and third place, respectively,
at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Denton, TX. Yandiel Muniz
broke the FIU high-jump record of 6-feet-08 inches to claim the top
spot. The running events saw FIU earn 64 points, while three different
Golden Panthers had second-place finishes.

11: Lennox and Loussaint take home titles at the Sun Belt Conference
Championships
Linda Loussaint and Michelle
Lennox take Sun Belt Conference titles at the SBC Championships in Denton,
TX. Loussaint won the high jump, with a leap of 5-feet-6.05 inches.
Lennox won her second consecutive
conference title, clearing 12-feet-11.5 inches.
May
5: Edwards qualifies for the NCAA Regional 400-meter dash at the Florida
Women's Classic
FIU finishes third at the
Florida Women's Classic in Gainesville, FL. The Golden Panthers ended
with 63 points in 18 events held at Percy Beard Stadium. Senior Anita
Edwards qualified for the NCAA Regional meet in the 400-meter dash with
a time of 54.13.
May 1: Loussaint named Sun Belt Field Performer
of the Week
Junior
high jumper Linda Loussaint was named the Sun Belt Conference
Outdoor Field Performer of the Week. Loussaint tied her career-high
jump of 5' 7" to win the collegiate division at the prestigious
Penn Relays last weekend.
April 25: Relay teams running well at the Penn
Relays
The women's 4x400-meter
team qualified for the finals on the second day of the Penn Relays.
The foursome ran a time of 3:42.55 and placed third overall in
the heat to qualify. The women's 4x200-meter relay track team
finished No. 1 in their heat at the Penn Relays, but just short
of making the championship run on Saturday.
April 24: Loussaint takes first place at the Penn
Relays
High jumper Linda
Loussaint tied her career-high jump of 5' 07" at the Penn
Relays to win the collegiate women's event. She tied her previous
mark set this year at the Hurricane Invitational on March 22.
April 19: Mills and Muniz lead Track and Field
at the FIU Invitational
A couple of records
were either tied or broken in FIU's dual meet with UM on Saturday
afternoon at FIU Stadium. Senior Jarod Mills broke the shot put
record and freshman Yandeil Muniz tied the men's high jump mark.

April 17: Track and Field set to host the FIU Invitational
this weekend
The Golden Panther
Track and Field team will host the FIU Invitational this Saturday,
April 19 at FIU Stadium. The college events will start at 9:30
a.m., with the high school portion beginning at Noon. FIU will
host Miami in the college segment, followed by 12 high schools.
March 24: Five different Golden Panthers qualify
for the NCAA Regional
Five different Golden
Panther individuals and two relay teams qualified for the NCAA
Regional in late May at the Hurricane Invitational this past
weekend. Anita Edwards, Vronique Wilson, Linda Loussaint, Michelle
Lennox and Jamare Clarington all qualified, along with the women's
4x100 and 4x400 meter-relay teams.
March 12: Wilson qualifies for the NCAA Indoor
Track and Field Championships
Vronique Wilson qualified
for the NCAA Indoor Championship 200-meter dash on March 14 and
15 at Fayetteville, AR. The senior ran a time of 23.65 on March
8 at the Last Chance Meet in Ames, IA to qualify. Wilson improved
her previous best time of 24.01 at the Armory Invitational.
March 3: Women's and Men's Indoor Track and Field
finish in third and fifth place at the Sun Belt Conference Championships
Lennox, Loussaint
and Dean all win Sun Belt Conference Indoor titles to lead the
FIU women to a third place finish in Jonesboro, AR. Eddy Rodriguez
won the 5,000-meter run to lead the men to fifth place.
February 24: Lennox named Sun Belt Performer of
the Week
Michelle Lennox was named Sun Belt
Conference Indoor Field Performer of the Week. Lennox, from Pearl
River, NY, returned to her home state and won the pole vault
event at the Armory Invitational.
November 4: Cross Country places fourth and ninth
at the Sun Belt Championships
Jorge Palmerola and Dalia Clarke
led FIU to fourth and ninth place finishes at the Sun Belt Conference
Championships in Denton, TX. Palmerola recorded a time of 27:41
for 14th place in the 8K race and Clarke ended with a 25:20 time
for 25th place in the 6K run.
September 27: Cross Country places 23rd in the
Great American Invitational
FIU places 23rd in the Great American
Invitational, with a total time of 2:27:43.6 in Charlotte, NC.
Eduardo Rodriguez led the Golden Panthers placing 104th overall
in the 8K run.
September 7: Rodriguez finishes fourth at the UCF
Invitational
FIU would have taken
its second straight title at the UCF Invitational in Orlando
Saturday afternoon, but a disqualification caused the Golden
Panthers not to finish. The Golden Panthers would have taken
the mens competition with 42 points followed by Miami in
second (45 points). Eddy Rodriguez led FIU with a fouth place
finish and a time of 20:49.
June 2: Vronique Wilson fininshes ninth in NCAA
200-meter dash championships
Junior sprinter Vronique
Wilson held true to form late Saturday, after finishing ninth
in preliminary heats Wednesday, she finished ninth in the finals
of the women's 200-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track &
Field Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
May 30: Wilson sprints her way into NCAA 200-meter
dash finals
Vronique Wilson posted her fastest
time of the season, finished fourth in her women's 200-meter
dash preliminary heat in 23.21 and qualified for the finals at
the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Baton Rouge,
La., late Wednesday.
May 24: Wilson qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships
Vronique Wilson has qualified for
next weekend's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in
Baton Rouge, La. and will compete in the women's 200-meter dash.
May 19: Wilson and Waugh compete at Georgia Tech
Last Chance meet
Vronique Wilson and senior Gerald
Waugh hoped to improve their standings for the NCAA Outdoor Track
& Field Championships by competing at this weekend's last
chance meet at Georgia Tech.
May 13: FIU women finish fourth, men come in seventh
at Sun Belt Conference Outdoor T&F meet
Led by sprinter Vronique Wilson's
winning of the women's 200-meter dash, the FIU women's team ended
fourth at the 2002 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field
Championships at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans. The Golden
Panther men finished in seventh place as senior Luiz Prestes
earned all-conference honors in three different events.
