Men's Soccer escapes UCF
atias Asorey had a goal and an assist
as Florida International edged UCF, 3-2, in men's soccer action
at UCF Soccer Field this afternoon. The victory extended the
squad's winning streak to 13.
Asorey scored the Golden Panthers
first goal 13:04 into the match with assists from Juan Rivera
and John Pulido before assisting on Billy Boswell's goal that
put FIU up 2-0 at 17:17. Paul Kolovos added another goal to make
the score 3-0 in favor of the visitors.
UCF cut the lead on a goal by
freshman Juan Pablo Giraudo under four minutes into the second
half. The Golden Knights came within one after sophomore Mauricio
Ruiz found the back of
the net on a header served by sophomore Eric Vasquez just under
three minutes later at 51:12.
FIU held a 16-12 advantage in
shots. Shawn Crowe, who started for the Golden Panthers in net,
made one save in 45 minutes while Roy Rosenberg made two saves
and allowed both goals in the second 45. UCF freshman Ryan McIntosh
stopped four shots.
FIU improved to 12-4-1 on the year with the victory. The Golden
Panthers close out the regular season at South Carolina next
Sunday at 2:00 p.m. |
