Former FIU standout assists
on MLS Cup's Golden Goal
ormer FIU standout Tyrone Marshall assisted
on Carlos Ruiz' Golden Goal in the 113th minute to give the Los
Angeles Galaxy a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution
and its first-ever MLS Cup title.
Marshall lettered at FIU in 1996 and 1997 and was a member of
the 1996 squad that advanced to the NCAA Division I Championship
game. He ranks 15th at FIU in all-time scoring with 59 points.
Marshall was not the only former
FIU player in the MLS title game as New England boasted a pair
of Golden Panthers. Steve Ralston, who led MLS with 19 assists
in 2002, donned the Blue & Gold from 1993-95 and earned All-America
honors in 1994 and 1995. He is FIU's career leader in assists
with 33. Daouda Kante, another starter for the Revolution, played
at FIU in 1999 and 2000.
All three played under current
FIU head coach Karl Kremser, who is in his 23rd year at the helm
of Golden Panther men's soccer. |
