Late goals prove to be too
much for Men's Soccer
pair of second-half goals just four minutes apart gave William
and Mary's men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Florida International
Saturday night at the St. John's Tournament in King's Point,
N.Y. The loss drops the Golden Panthers to 0-4-0 on the year
while giving the Tribe its first victory and a 1-2-0 mark early
in 2002.
FIU jumped on the board first, as senior Matias Asorey scored
on a penalty kick in the game's 22nd minute. Each team took four
shots and two corner kicks in the evenly played first half.
In the second half, the Tribe's Phillip Hucles evened the score,
taking a pass from Ralph Bean in the 60th minute for his second
goal of the year. W&M's deciding goal came just four minutes
later as Bean deflected a cross into the net at the 63:04 mark.
The loss marked the second time in four matches that the Golden
Panthers saw a lead slip away late in the game. In the season
opener vs. CSU Fullerton, a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes
of action led to the demise of the Golden Panthers in a 3-2 defeat.
FIU returns to action when they take the short trip to Boca
Raton to face regional-rival Florida Atlantic on Saturday at
