FIU Men’s Soccer attracts another top recruit

lorida International University men’s soccer coach Karl Kremser announced today that All-Suncoast co-Player of the Year Bobby Boswell signed a national letter of intent to attend school and play with the Golden Panthers this fall.

The 6-2 midfielder led Hillsborough County with 25 goals last season and helped Plant High School to a 13-2-1 record and a district title after going 2-13-1 and finishing last in its district a season earlier. He was named team captain and MVP and also selected as a Hillsborough County All-Star, Western Region All-Star, first-team National Division, first-team All-County and 3A All-State.

Boswell was a four-year starter for Plant with 52 career goals and 43 goals. As an amateur, he has played Premier Division soccer for eight years with the Carrollwood/Blackwatch Lightning and the Clearwater Chargers and has gained experience playing in three European tournaments. This year, he is a member of the Region C Florida State ODP team.

"Bobby is just an outstanding signing," said Kremser. "He’s got excellent skills and literally carried his high school team this past
year. Besides that, he plays with one of the premier amateur clubs in Florida.

"Bobby played midfield in high school but we are probably looking at him as a central defender with us. We are very fortunate to have signed him."

Boswell joins an already impressive recruiting class that includes under-18 U.S. National team player Landy Mattison (Franklin, Tenn.), Carron Williams, a member of Trinidad’s under-17 and under-20 National Soccer and Track and Field teams and under-18 National Team pool player Allen Handy (Austin, Tex.).

Bobby Boswell will join his older brother Billy who played as a freshman with the Golden Panthers in 2000. Last year, FIU finished with an 11-7-1 record which included a 3-2 overtime win over No. 4-ranked UAB and the first-ever championship of the newly-formed Atlantic Soccer Conference.
